Toronto Web Design

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Over the years, many businesses have approached me in Toronto, only complaining about the previous web design company that they worked with to create their current website. Were their expectations to high? Probably not. Most of the time we don’t get the results we were looking for 1 of 2 reasons:

1) The web design company gives too many promises that they simply cannot deliver.

2) The consumer did not thoroughly understand what the web design team was proposing based on the project proposal or agreement.

When choosing a web design company in Toronto make sure that your goals are perfectly aligned with the company’s objectives. If you’re looking for a flashy, animated website that will just serve as an online brochure for your prospective clients than that’s one thing. If you’re main goal on the other hand is to create a SEO friendly website that will generate lots of traffic - than going the flash root might not be such a good idea. If SEO is the next step in your internet marketing campaign, than going with a web design company in Toronto who only specializes in web design might not be such a good idea. You need a web design firm who knows and understands SEO principles. Otherwise, you’re sure to waste more money down the road, which could have easily been avoidable.

Make sure the web design company has the proper tools, knowledge and experience in order to complete the project properly. Do some due diligence and compare all the different web design firms in the Toronto area (there’s lots of them out there). Don’t waste your precious time and money just so you can take a chance with one company, only realizing later that you have to reinvest in a new website. Choose a Toronto web design company that’s right for you and your business.

Web design festival in Toronto

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

If you are serious about your web career, don’t miss out on this upcoming festival in Toronto - FITC 2008. It will take place between April 19th - 22th. For those who don’t know about the festival, “FITC is now entering its 7th amazing year, and is the only festival of its kind; combining cutting edge technical and creative speakers from around the world”.

I attended FITC last year (live very close to Toronto… only an hour drive). It was informative and fun but seemed to drag on at times. Bogus, it’s not just about learning things that you can learn on the web - it’s about seeing how other companies handle their business, and how you might absorb some info on how to improve your own. And of course the ever-important networking. It is pricey if you have to pay for it yourself, but if your company covers the cost then it’s worth it. At the after-parties we met people from as far away as Mexico and New Zealand, it was an interesting experience.
